R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Bill Johnson of Wimberley is marking a special |
|
milestone in his life with the observance of his 90th birthday on |
|
May 25, 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Houston in 1923, William Parks Johnson |
|
served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World |
|
War II; he was wounded in the Battle of Iwo Jima and subsequently |
|
received the Purple Heart; later, he attended The University of |
|
Texas at Austin, and as a student he met and married Mary Frances |
|
Brown; they have now shared more than 60 years as husband and wife; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson began farming and ranching in the |
|
Wimberley area in the 1940s; at about that same time, he also helped |
|
to establish Camp Longhorn, and during the 35 years that he served |
|
as camp director, this esteemed Texan mentored thousands of |
|
children and young adults; though he retired in 1978, Mr. Johnson |
|
continues to play an active role in his community, where he has been |
|
instrumental in the founding of a new church; moreover, he is an |
|
expert in the history of the area and the author of numerous books; |
|
above all, he cherishes his family, which has grown to include five |
|
children, Lynn, Jock, Clay, Blake, and Scott, and three |
|
grandchildren, Caraline, Lauren, and Andrew; and |
|
WHEREAS, Bill Johnson is a treasured source of wisdom and an |
|
inspiration to all who know him, and it is a pleasure to honor him on |
|
nine decades of life well lived; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Bill Johnson on his 90th birthday |
|
and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Johnson as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
