R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
  memories of Vojt J. Holub of San Antonio, who died on March 23,
  2013, at the age of 88; and
         WHEREAS, V. J. Holub was born in Ammannsville on March 28,
  1924, to John and Anna Kana Holub; as a high-spirited and
  adventurous young man growing up on a ranch, he used to catch
  rattlesnakes and sell them for 35 cents a pound; he was the captain
  of the championship football team at Fowlerton Consolidated High
  School, where he graduated in 1941; and
         WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty during World War
  II, Mr. Holub joined the U.S. Army and served as a member of the
  Tank Destroyer Force Company A, 636th Tank Destroyer Battalion,
  36th Division; near the end of the war, his unit played an important
  role in the capture of Hermann Goering, Hitler's second in command,
  in Austria; a member of the Army Reserve, he later returned to duty
  during the Korean War and worked as a mechanic; and
         WHEREAS, In 1957, Mr. Holub joined the San Antonio Police
  Department, and he helped to serve and protect the citizens of that
  city for 31 years; he played a vital role in acquiring collective
  bargaining rights for his fellow officers in the 1970s, and he was
  well known for his skills as a pit master at police barbecues; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Holub was also proud of his Czech heritage, and
  he served as president of Alamo Lodge No. 141 of RVOS Farm Mutual
  Insurance Company and as a member of the finance committee of the
  Anton Wenzel Lodge of the Sons of Hermann and SPJST Fraternal; in
  addition, he was a member of the San Antonio Fire and Police Pension
  Fund; and
         WHEREAS, Energetic and fun-loving, Mr. Holub delighted in
  his family's annual trips to Las Vegas; he was beloved by his
  friends for his kind heart and generous nature, and respected by his
  fellow San Antonio police officers for his calm approach to the job;
  and
         WHEREAS, A devoted husband, a loving father, and a true and
  loyal friend, V. J. Holub lived a rich and purposeful life, and he
  will forever be remembered with deep affection by all who held him
  close to their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Vojt J. Holub and
  extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Mary V. Holub; to his children, Martin Holub and his wife,
  Patti, Beverly Shaner, and Paul Holub; to his sisters, Mildred Tope
  and Annie Mae Lawson; to his grandchildren, Alyssa Shaner, Aaryanna
  Shaner, and Cole Holub; and to his other relatives and friends; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
  V. J. Holub.
