R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Drew Keeney and Miles Milliorn of Lorena High School |
|
realized great success during the 2013 season, winning the District |
|
17-3A boys' doubles tennis championship and qualifying for the |
|
state tournament; and |
|
WHEREAS, Competing in their first season as doubles partners, |
|
Mr. Keeney, a senior, and Mr. Milliorn, a junior, entered the |
|
district tournament with momentum on their side following their |
|
victory in the Groesbeck Tournament on March 21; and |
|
WHEREAS, The duo captured the district crown in convincing |
|
fashion, defeating all three of their opponents in straight sets; |
|
their strongest challenge came from the Robinson High School team |
|
that they faced in the final, but Mr. Keeney and Mr. Milliorn |
|
prevailed by a 6-2 score in both sets to claim the title; and |
|
WHEREAS, With their district triumph, the players moved on to |
|
the 3A Region III tournament in Bryan on April 15 and 16, and they |
|
advanced all the way to the finals of that competition before being |
|
defeated; their runner-up finish gave them the opportunity to |
|
represent Lorena High School in the University Interscholastic |
|
League State Tournament at Texas A&M University, where their season |
|
came to an end with a hard-fought quarterfinal loss on April 29; and |
|
WHEREAS, These outstanding student-athletes demonstrated |
|
exceptional talent and dedication in becoming district champions |
|
and earning a place among the top teams in the state, and they may |
|
take justifiable pride in their accomplishments; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Drew Keeney and Miles Milliorn on |
|
winning the District 17-3A doubles tennis title and qualifying for |
|
the state tournament and extend to them sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Keeney and Mr. Milliorn as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
