R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, LeTourneau University continues to excel at its
  mission of providing strong academics in a faith-centered
  environment; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in Longview in 1946 by earthmoving equipment
  entrepreneur R. G. LeTourneau, the university was originally
  created to serve returning World War II veterans; it became a
  coeducational college in 1961 and introduced its first graduate
  programs in 1989; today the school offers programs in a number of
  fields, including engineering, aerospace science, business,
  education, ministry, and Biblical studies; the university also
  provides students with the option of evening, weekend, and online
  classes, with learning centers located in Dallas, Tyler, Bedford,
  Houston, and Austin; and
         WHEREAS, LeTourneau University has a total enrollment of more
  than 2,800 students at all campuses, with about 1,350 traditional
  undergraduates studying at its main campus in Longview; highly
  ranked by such publications as U.S. News and World Report, the
  university is a member of the American Southwest Conference and is
  accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
  Commission on Colleges; and
         WHEREAS, The school's Center for Faith and Work provides
  students with the opportunity to participate in workshops, service
  learning initiatives, activities at local businesses, and
  mentoring programs, with the ultimate goal of bridging the gap
  between worship and work; and
         WHEREAS, LeTourneau University has enriched the lives of many
  students for more than six decades, and it continues to develop new
  leadership for the Lone Star State and beyond; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor LeTourneau University for its commitment
  to preparing students for service in the world through the
  integration of academic study and spiritual growth and extend to
  all those associated with the university sincere best wishes for
  the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the university as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
