R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Karl Lee Herzog retired from ConocoPhillips on May
  15, 2013, bringing to a close a distinguished career in chemical
  engineering that spanned four decades; and
         WHEREAS, The valedictorian of his class at Stanton High
  School, Karl Herzog graduated with highest honors from Texas Tech
  University, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees; he
  began his career with Texas Eastman in 1973, and through the years
  he served in leadership roles with several firms; he joined
  ConocoPhillips in 2004, and after working on a project in Ponca
  City, Oklahoma, he relocated to the company's Houston office to
  design innovative liquefied natural gas processes; admired and
  respected for his engineering expertise, he was frequently in
  demand by his peers, and during his 40 years in the field, he
  received four patents as well as the Spirit of Performance Award for
  Project Excellence; and
         WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Herzog has enjoyed the
  love and support of his wife of 43 years, Cathy Hazlewood; over
  time, their treasured family has grown to include two sons and their
  spouses, Gregory and his wife, Amy, and Christopher and his wife,
  Leanna, and four grandchildren, Mathew, Owen, Wyatt, and Nathan; he
  is an avid numismatist and a prolific gardener, often claiming
  yard-of-the-month honors for his abundance of beautiful flowers;
  and
         WHEREAS, Karl Herzog has distinguished himself through his
  outstanding contributions to his profession, and he may indeed take
  justifiable pride in his record of achievement; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Karl Lee Herzog on his retirement
  from ConocoPhillips and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
  future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Herzog as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
