R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Conner Christian of Angleton won the 5th Annual YEA!
  Saunders Scholars National Competition held on April 26, 2013, in
  Rochester, New York; and
         WHEREAS, In pursuit of his goal, Conner drafted a 300-word
  essay and was one of only 25 students selected to participate in the
  Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!), which is a yearlong class that
  teaches junior high and high school students the essentials of
  creating and running a business; through the Saunders Scholars
  competition, the top business is selected at each YEA! location and
  these are judged against one another at the national level for the
  chance to win scholarship money, an appearance on the TV show Shark
  Tank, and a trip to America's Small Business Summit in Washington,
  D.C., hosted by the United States Chamber of Commerce; for his
  achievement, Conner won $30,000 toward his college education; and
         WHEREAS, An eighth grader at Angleton Junior High School,
  Conner participated in the YEA! program sponsored by the Greater
  Angleton Chamber of Commerce; the 13-year-old grew up farming and
  ranching, and he created the "Rubber Boot Buddy" to better store wet
  and dirty boots in the bed of a truck; he has already secured a
  trademark for his invention and has sold nearly 100 of these useful
  boot racks; the son of proud parents Corey and Sandi Christian,
  Conner hopes to further build his business while finishing school
  and pursuing his interest in baseball and other extracurricular
  activities; and
         WHEREAS, Through hard work and innovation, Conner Christian
  has demonstrated the entrepreneurial spirit that is the lifeblood
  of the American economy, and he may reflect with pride on his
  accomplishments as he looks forward to a future bright with
  promise; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Conner Christian on winning the 5th
  Annual YEA! Saunders Scholars National Competition and extend to
  him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for this outstanding young Texan as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
