R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Erica Nguyen and Hejab Khan of The Colony High
  School have been selected as delegates to the 2013 Texas Bluebonnet
  Girls State session; and
         WHEREAS, Established more than half a century ago by the
  American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary, Girls State
  provides participants the opportunity to gain knowledge about the
  operation of our representative form of government by holding a
  weeklong mock legislative session; and
         WHEREAS, This worthwhile initiative teaches skills of
  organization, advocacy, compromise, and persuasion that prepare
  our state's youth to be the public and civic leaders of tomorrow; a
  number of past attendees have gone on to inspire generations of
  young women through their public service, including Governor Ann
  Richards, Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn, and Judge Bea Ann
  Smith; and
         WHEREAS, Through their involvement in Bluebonnet Girls
  State, Ms. Nguyen and Ms. Khan are representing their school and
  community with distinction while receiving an invaluable
  experience that will serve them well in their future endeavors;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Erica Nguyen and Hejab Khan of The
  Colony High School on their selection as delegates of the 2013 Texas
  Bluebonnet Girls State and extend to them sincere best wishes for
  the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
  for Ms. Nguyen and Ms. Khan as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
