R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Adan Gonzalez of Dallas won the Men's 165 Elite |
|
|
Division title at the 2013 United States Intercollegiate Boxing |
|
|
Association National Championship Tournament, held April 11-13 in |
|
|
San Francisco; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Gonzalez first started boxing at the age of |
|
|
nine, introduced to the sport by his father, and he flourished in |
|
|
the sweet science from the outset; now the cocaptain of the |
|
|
Georgetown University club boxing team, he was the only Hoyas |
|
|
fighter to win a title at the championships, where he triumphed over |
|
|
national finalist Sebastian Doerner of the University of San |
|
|
Francisco; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This outstanding Texas athlete has excelled in the |
|
|
classroom as well; he was a straight-A student at W. H. Adamson High |
|
|
School in Dallas, where he was voted 2011 Student of the Year by |
|
|
Junior Achievement, and his academic excellence earned him a full |
|
|
scholarship to Georgetown; Mr. Gonzalez is the first member of his |
|
|
family to attend college, and he is hopeful that his achievements |
|
|
will help encourage others to pursue higher education; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, By proving himself one of the finest collegiate |
|
|
boxers in the United States, Adan Gonzalez has established himself |
|
|
as an exceptional athlete and an inspiring role model, and his |
|
|
accomplishment is a source of great pride to his family and his |
|
|
community; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Adan Gonzalez on capturing the |
|
|
Men's 165 Elite Division title at the 2013 United States |
|
|
Intercollegiate Boxing Association National Championship |
|
|
Tournament and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
|
|
success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Gonzalez as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
