R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The city of Mission has benefited greatly from the
  steadfast leadership of the Honorable Norberto Salinas, who has
  ably served his fellow citizens as mayor for the past 15 years; and
         WHEREAS, Elected to the first of five terms in 1998, Mayor
  Salinas has guided Mission as it has emerged as one of the Rio
  Grande Valley's fastest-growing cities; during his tenure, the
  community has welcomed the arrival of Advance Auto Parts, The Home
  Depot, and many other new employers, and the completion of the
  Anzalduas Bridge has energized the economy as well; he previously
  served as the commissioner of Hidalgo County Precinct 3 from 1980 to
  1992; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, Mayor Salinas has benefited the Lone
  Star State through his service by gubernatorial appointment on the
  Indigent Health Care Task Force, the Texas Funeral Service
  Commission, and the board of the Texas Department of Housing and
  Community Affairs, and he has chaired the Texas Department of
  Transportation MPO Policy Committee; he has further given of his
  time and talents to the Hidalgo County Chapter of the American Red
  Cross, and he has served the Mission Chamber of Commerce as a member
  of the board and of the President's Club; and
         WHEREAS, Mayor Salinas was named Man of the Year by the City
  of Mission in 1987, and he has received a host of other accolades,
  including the 2008 Citizen of the Year Award from the Rotary Club of
  Mission, the Mr. Amigos Award from Amigos del Valle, and
  recognition by such organizations as the Hidalgo County Juvenile
  Court, the Sullivan City Head Start Program, and Children,
  Families, and Elderly of the Abram-Perezville Community; and
         WHEREAS, A successful businessman as well as a dedicated
  public servant, Mayor Salinas is president of S&F Developers and
  helps to run his family's ranch; he is devoted to his wife, Yvonne,
  and to his 5 children, 11 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mayor Salinas has distinguished himself through his
  accomplishments in office and his record of civic engagement, and
  in doing so, he has helped to make Mission an even better place in
  which to live and work; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Mayor Norberto Salinas for his
  outstanding contributions to the city of Mission and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mayor Salinas as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
