R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Javier Exiquio Gonzalez of Lamar Academy in McAllen
  has been accepted into the summer 2013 session of Subiendo: The
  Academy for Rising Leaders at the McCombs School of Business of The
  University of Texas at Austin; and
         WHEREAS, The Subiendo Academy is a weeklong intensive
  leadership training program offered to Texas high school students;
  participants work in groups to find solutions to major problems
  facing Texas, meet with business leaders and policy makers to
  review and assess their findings, and create a summary presentation
  of their proposals for legislative staff and the media; and
         WHEREAS, Enrolled in the rigorous International
  Baccalaureate program at Lamar Academy, Mr. Gonzalez is a member of
  the National Honor Society at his home school, McAllen Memorial
  High School; as a freshman, he took part in the Great Debate
  competition at the National Hispanic Institute, winning a spot in
  the Sweet 16 and qualifying for the national contest, in which he
  took second place in extemporaneous speaking; he has also attended
  the institute's Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session; and
         WHEREAS, This fine young Texan devotes himself to community
  service as well, and for the last three years he has been a
  volunteer at a local children's medical facility; moreover, he puts
  his debating skills to good use as an extemporaneous speaking coach
  for other high school students; and
         WHEREAS, Javier Gonzalez's hard work and proven commitment to
  excellence herald a future bright with promise, and he may indeed
  take great pride in being selected to participate in this
  prestigious program; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Javier Exiquio Gonzalez on his
  acceptance into the Subiendo Academy at The University of Texas at
  Austin and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Gonzalez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
