R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Victor Vandergriff of Arlington served with |
|
distinction as inaugural chair of the Texas Department of Motor |
|
Vehicles board from 2009 to 2013, when he took office as a member of |
|
the Texas Transportation Commission; and |
|
WHEREAS, Appointed to the DMV board in 2009, Mr. Vandergriff |
|
has guided the agency's development with exceptional skill and |
|
dedication; under his leadership, the DMV introduced the new "Texas |
|
Classic" license plates, which incorporate enhanced security |
|
features to help law enforcement personnel quickly spot counterfeit |
|
plates; the agency also unveiled a more user-friendly vehicle |
|
registration sticker customized to allow officers to quickly flag |
|
stolen vehicles or identify the owner in the event of an accident; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Vandergriff, an attorney, brought to the post |
|
years of experience in the automobile industry, as well as an |
|
exceptional background in transportation issues; he has served as |
|
chair of the North Texas Tollway Authority board and he played a key |
|
role in a number of its major projects, among them the planned |
|
extension of Texas State Highway 360 from Arlington to Mansfield; |
|
previously, he was vice president of the Van Tuyl Group, which |
|
provides management consulting services to the largest group of |
|
privately held automotive dealerships in the United States, and he |
|
was involved in the business as a franchise owner, dealer, and |
|
executive manager for more than 25 years; he graduated from the |
|
School of Public Administration at the University of Southern |
|
California and completed his law degree at Southern Methodist |
|
University; and |
|
WHEREAS, Victor Vandergriff has greatly benefited the |
|
citizens of Texas through his exemplary service as chair of the |
|
Department of Motor Vehicles, and as he takes on his new |
|
responsibilities as a member of the Texas Transportation |
|
Commission, it is indeed fitting to recognize him for his |
|
accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Victor Vandergriff for his |
|
distinguished service as chair of the Texas Department of Motor |
|
Vehicles board and congratulate him on his appointment to the Texas |
|
Transportation Commission; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Vandergriff as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
