R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, William Hutchings has been named the 2013 Man of the
  Year by the South Central Texas Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma
  Society for his outstanding efforts in its fund-raising campaign;
  and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1949, the society is committed to
  finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and
  myeloma, as well as to improving the lives of patients and their
  families; initiatives that support its endeavors include the Man
  and Woman of the Year Campaign, a 10-week contest in which
  candidates vie for the title by using their talents to earn "votes"
  in the form of donations to this noteworthy organization; in 2013,
  the South Central Texas Chapter raised more than $500,000 in its
  campaign; and
         WHEREAS, Participants in the fund-raising competition gain
  inspiration from getting to know young survivors of leukemia and
  lymphoma, the Boy and Girl of the Year; "Hutch" Hutchings dedicated
  his campaign to Charlie Ortiz, a vibrant young fourth grader who
  completed her treatment for leukemia in February 2012; in addition,
  he paid tribute to his grandmother, the late Alma "Boots" Chastain,
  who was a cancer patient and hospital volunteer; and
         WHEREAS, Through his hard work in behalf of The Leukemia &
  Lymphoma Society, Hutch Hutchings has helped the organization raise
  awareness of its important mission and meet its fund-raising goals;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend William "Hutch" Hutchings for his
  contributions to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and congratulate
  him on winning the Man of the Year title for the South Central Texas
  Chapter; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Hutchings as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
