R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The loved ones of U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant |
|
(Ret.) Thomas George Shippey of Holly Lake Ranch were greatly |
|
saddened by his passing on April 4, 2013, at the age of 77; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Grand Prairie on October 28, 1935, to George |
|
and Janie Shippey, Tom Shippey attended Tyler Junior College before |
|
joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C.; he |
|
went on to enlist in the United States Marine Corps in 1959, and his |
|
distinguished military tenure, which included two tours of duty in |
|
Vietnam, spanned 26 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Shippey settled in Holly Lake Ranch following |
|
his retirement; active in a number of worthwhile endeavors, he |
|
served on the board of directors of the Hawkins/Holly Lake Veterans |
|
Memorial and shared his time with the local Republican Club, Men's |
|
Golf Association, and Historical Society; he was also a charter |
|
member and three-term president of the Holly Lake Ranch Kiwanis |
|
Club, and his exceptional leadership earned him selection as |
|
lieutenant governor for District 34; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Shippey enjoyed the |
|
love and support of his wife of 50 years, Jan, and he took pride in a |
|
fine family that included two sons, Tim and Bryan, and three |
|
grandchildren, Faith, Ellen, and Drew; and |
|
WHEREAS, Tom Shippey lived a full and purposeful life, and |
|
though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of service to his |
|
country and his community will long resonate in the hearts of all |
|
those fortunate enough to have known him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Marine Corps |
|
Gunnery Sergeant (Ret.) Thomas George Shippey and extend sincere |
|
sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Jan Shippey; to |
|
his sons, Tim and his wife, Bridget, and Bryan and his wife, Sara; |
|
to his grandchildren, Faith, Ellen, and Drew; and to his other |
|
relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sergeant |
|
Tom Shippey. |
