R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly |
|
cause for celebration, and Oleta Faye Turner of Winnsboro reached |
|
that impressive milestone in her life on April 6, 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, Weighing a scant three pounds when she was born in |
|
1913, she was not expected to live, but careful nurturing from her |
|
grandmother saved her life, and she has gone on not only to survive, |
|
but to thrive; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1927, she was joined in matrimony to Clyde Alton |
|
Turner, and they shared six decades together until his death in |
|
1989; the couple were blessed with two children, Joan, who is now |
|
82, and Tommy, who is 80, and Mrs. Turner is now the proud matriarch |
|
of a clan that includes many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, |
|
and great-great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, This indomitable woman continues to live on her own |
|
in a two-bedroom house and starts each morning with a cup of coffee, |
|
followed by her exercises; although her eyesight is no longer what |
|
it once was, she grows flowers and has a vegetable garden and |
|
continues to enjoy walking with friends; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Turner's energy, high spirits, and joie de |
|
vivre have surely attributed to her outstanding longevity, and she |
|
remains an inspiration and a source of delight to her many loving |
|
family members and friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Oleta Faye Turner on her 100th |
|
birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
|
happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Turner as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
