R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Fred Farias III of McAllen has been elected |
|
|
president of the Texas Optometric Association for the year 2014; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and |
|
|
Southern College of Optometry, Dr. Farias has owned and operated |
|
|
20/20 Vision Care for 25 years; over the course of his career, he |
|
|
has played an active role in professional organizations at the |
|
|
local, state, and national levels; he is a fellow of the American |
|
|
Optometric Association and state coordinator of the AOA |
|
|
Foundation's Vision USA Committee, which works to provide |
|
|
low-income, uninsured individuals and their families with free eye |
|
|
health and vision care; moreover, he has served as |
|
|
secretary-treasurer and as a member of the executive committee and |
|
|
board of directors of the TOA and as a gubernatorial appointee to |
|
|
the Texas Optometry Board; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan is the recipient of the AOA |
|
|
Recognition Award and multiple TOA Presidents Awards; in addition |
|
|
to contributing to his profession, he has given back to his |
|
|
community as a member of the board of directors of the Vannie E. |
|
|
Cook Jr. Children's Cancer and Hematology Clinic, the Rio Grande |
|
|
Valley American Cancer Society, and the Rio Grande Valley Arthritis |
|
|
Foundation; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Farias has demonstrated outstanding commitment |
|
|
to his work, his colleagues, and his fellow citizens, and the |
|
|
members of the Texas Optometric Association will indeed benefit |
|
|
from the leadership and dedication he brings to his new post; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor the president-elect of the Texas |
|
|
Optometric Association, Dr. Fred Farias III, and extend to him |
|
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Dr. Farias as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
