R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Bob Holland and Merle Holland of Fort Worth are |
|
|
celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on June 29, 2013, and |
|
|
they may indeed reflect with joy on the rewarding relationship they |
|
|
have shared; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Bob Holland and the former Merle Stokes went on |
|
|
their first date on July 14, 1960; having established their |
|
|
compatibility over the course of 370 more dates, they duly got |
|
|
engaged on May 7, 1963; they married the following month in a |
|
|
ceremony held at Willow Meadows Baptist Church in Houston; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. and Mrs. Holland were later blessed with two |
|
|
sons and a daughter; they served as youth coaches in soccer and |
|
|
baseball, and Mrs. Holland became a soccer referee; today, their |
|
|
close-knit family includes their children, Guy Holland, Beth |
|
|
Holland Klimas and her husband, Eric, and Mark Holland and his wife, |
|
|
Wendy, as well as two grandchildren, Rowan and Gage; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A retired dentist, Dr. Holland graduated from The |
|
|
University of Texas at Austin; he began his practice in Houston in |
|
|
the mid-1960s before relocating it to Fort Worth; Mrs. Holland had |
|
|
a 25-year career with Fort Worth Country Day School, from which she |
|
|
retired as the lower school technology and curriculum coordinator; |
|
|
moreover, she has been very active through the years in the honorary |
|
|
educator organization Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and |
|
|
has held several leadership positions with the group at the state |
|
|
and national levels; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The couple are valued members of University Baptist |
|
|
Church and volunteer for its programs; Dr. Holland is a longtime |
|
|
deacon and Mrs. Holland taught Sunday school there for over a |
|
|
quarter-century; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Avid football fans as well, the Hollands follow the |
|
|
Dallas Cowboys, the Texas Longhorns, and the Louisiana State |
|
|
University Tigers; Mrs. Holland enjoys playing the piano, and since |
|
|
taking up the harp, she has been asked to perform at a variety of |
|
|
functions; among Dr. Holland's favorite pursuits are gardening and |
|
|
cooking, and he has also learned the art of making custom knives; |
|
|
together, they have recently discovered the joys and challenges of |
|
|
fly-fishing; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For five decades, Bob and Merle Holland have brought |
|
|
to their marriage laughter, kindness, and devotion, and it is a |
|
|
pleasure to honor them for their enduring commitment; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Bob and Merle Holland on their |
|
|
golden wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes |
|
|
for continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Dr. and Mrs. Holland as an expression of high regard |
|
|
by the Texas House of Representatives. |
