R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, For the past four years, members of the Plains High
  School calculator team have achieved outstanding results at
  district, regional, and state competitions; and
         WHEREAS, Organized through the University Interscholastic
  League, the Calculator Applications Contest is a 30-minute test
  composed of a variety of 70 mathematical problems to be solved with
  a handheld calculator; in the 2009-2010 school year, the Plains
  High team, including Nathan McCravey, Cody Friesen, Hunter Welch,
  Denise Tarango, and Autumn Friesen, won at the district level and
  placed second at regional; the following year, Mr. Friesen, Mr.
  Welch, Ms. Tarango, and Ms. Friesen took first at both district and
  regional and came in fourth at the state event, where Ms. Tarango
  also won the top individual honor; and
         WHEREAS, In 2011-2012, Ms. Tarango and Ms. Friesen were
  joined by Mayra Cueto and Alyx Henderson to become the top team in
  the Lone Star State, and Ms. Tarango repeated her first-place
  individual win; during the 2012-2013 season, Ms. Friesen and Ms.
  Henderson, along with Chasity Chavez and Lexi Flores, took the
  highest prize at district and second at regional, and Ms. Chavez
  qualified for the state contest; and
         WHEREAS, Through dedicated study and countless hours of
  practice, past and present members of the Plains High calculator
  team have an impressive record, and they are a source of great pride
  to their school and families; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the Plains High School calculator team on
  its achievements and extend to its members sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
