R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Joseph Douglas Sims of Boy Scouts of America Troop |
|
No. 505 in Lubbock has attained the rank of Eagle Scout, and this |
|
accomplishment truly merits special recognition; and |
|
WHEREAS, Receiving the Eagle Scout badge is a significant |
|
honor, bestowed on only a small fraction of those who enter the |
|
scouting movement; in the course of meeting the rank's demanding |
|
criteria, Mr. Sims earned the requisite 21 merit badges and |
|
successfully completed an Eagle Scout project of benefit to his |
|
community; moreover, in his time with Troop 505, he has served as |
|
troop scribe, values guide, and senior patrol leader, and he was |
|
awarded the prestigious Arrow of Light Award; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Doug and Ann Sims, this fine young Texan |
|
has also distinguished himself outside of scouting, as he excelled |
|
in his honors classes at Monterey High School and graduated in the |
|
top five percent of his class; he earned numerous division one |
|
ratings at the University Interscholastic League Regional Solo and |
|
Small Ensemble Competition and was named to the All-Region Honor |
|
Band; in addition, he was selected to represent the city of Lubbock |
|
as drum major of the All-Lubbock Marching Band in the 2013 Rose |
|
Parade in Pasadena, California; he now studies music at Texas Tech |
|
University, and he hopes to one day serve his country as a member of |
|
a military service band; and |
|
WHEREAS, Eagle Scout Sims's dedication to excellence and his |
|
perseverance in the pursuit of his goals have proven him worthy to |
|
stand among scouting's elite, and he may indeed reflect with pride |
|
on a job well done; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Joseph Douglas Sims on achieving |
|
the rank of Eagle Scout and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Eagle Scout Sims as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
