R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Nick Monreal has worked tirelessly to secure the |
|
safety and well-being of senior citizens and persons with mental |
|
and physical impairments; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since lending his support to the field of victim |
|
advocacy in 2000, Mr. Monreal has helped protect those who may be |
|
susceptible to crimes of abuse, neglect, and financial |
|
exploitation; he has been a catalyst for the reform of the |
|
previously unregulated boarding home industry, and during the 80th |
|
and 81st Texas Legislative Sessions, he played a crucial part in the |
|
development of two major pieces of legislation affecting boarding |
|
facilities; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Monreal's commitment to this important endeavor |
|
is further reflected in his 10-year tenure as chair of the Bexar |
|
County Assisted Living Facilities Task Force as well as in his role |
|
as a consultant for the state-commissioned Report on Texas Boarding |
|
Houses; he has served for 14 years as managing local ombudsman for |
|
the Alamo Area Council of Governments' Bexar Area Agency on Aging, |
|
where he oversees the investigation and resolution of complaints |
|
regarding 61 nursing homes and 138 assisted living facilities; for |
|
his achievements in that post, he won recognition from the National |
|
Association of Area Agencies on Aging; and |
|
WHEREAS, This distinguished Texan's background additionally |
|
includes 30 years of work in behalf of comprehensive school reform |
|
demonstration projects funded by the Texas Education Agency; a |
|
recipient of the Community Partner Award from Goodwill Industries, |
|
he has served on the Goodwill Industries Alliance Council and |
|
provided technical assistance in creating four Good Careers Academy |
|
campuses, which specialize in offering affordable, short-term |
|
certification career programs; moreover, he is the founder of Teach |
|
the Children, a charity that furnishes clothing and school supplies |
|
for young Texans in need; and |
|
WHEREAS, Nick Monreal has dedicated his life to ensuring that |
|
the most vulnerable among us are treated with the care and dignity |
|
to which all citizens are entitled, and he is deserving of the |
|
utmost respect and admiration for his many vital contributions to |
|
this cause; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Nick Monreal for the positive and |
|
lasting impact that he has made in countless lives and extend to him |
|
sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Monreal as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
