R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of the First United Methodist Church of
  Kountze came together on May 18 and 19, 2013, to celebrate the 125th
  anniversary of their congregation; and
         WHEREAS, This venerable institution dates back to 1886, when
  the cornerstone was laid for its first building; the church opened
  two years later, becoming the only house of worship in Hardin
  County; at that time, the nearest church was 26 miles south, in
  Beaumont, and the Kountze sanctuary was used by all denominations
  then active in the area; and
         WHEREAS, In 1940, a two-story annex was added, but just nine
  years afterward, the membership had outgrown the space;
  construction began on a new church, which was completed in 1951, and
  the Family Life Center was added in 2000; today, the congregation
  consists of more than 200 members, who are led in prayer by Pastor
  Nathan Gossett; and
         WHEREAS, For 125 years, the First United Methodist Church of
  Kountze has provided steadfast spiritual and moral guidance to the
  community it serves, and its continued existence is a tribute to the
  commitment and faith of its leaders and members, past and present;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 125th anniversary of the First
  United Methodist Church of Kountze and extend to the members of the
  congregation sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
