R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Residents of Forest Hill are gathering on Memorial |
|
|
Day 2013 to dedicate the newly completed Memorial Park in honor of |
|
|
local military veterans and public safety officers who have so |
|
|
commendably served their fellow citizens; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Commissioned in 2012 by the Forest Hill City Council |
|
|
and overseen by a committee of staff members and volunteers, the |
|
|
park was created on land donated in 2002 by the family of Samuel |
|
|
Gene Payte, a real estate developer and World War II navy veteran; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A highlight of the park is a "Court of Honor" with |
|
|
stone panels representing each branch of the U.S. military and the |
|
|
engraved names of active and former service members; a monument |
|
|
honoring prisoners of war and soldiers reported missing in action |
|
|
and a tribute in remembrance of Forest Hill public safety officers |
|
|
who lost their lives in the line of duty are also important sections |
|
|
of the memorial; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Texans owe a profound debt of gratitude to the men |
|
|
and women who risk their lives in our behalf on American soil and |
|
|
overseas, and this poignant installation will serve as a reminder |
|
|
of their courage and sacrifice for generations to come; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the City of Forest Hill on the |
|
|
completion of Memorial Park and commemorate the service of the |
|
|
community's military and public safety personnel, past and present; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the City of Forest Hill as an expression of high regard |
|
|
by the Texas House of Representatives. |
