R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
  passing of Irene McGregor Ratliff of Lubbock on February 8, 2013, at
  the age of 100; and
         WHEREAS, Descended from a long line of Texas pioneers, the
  former Irene McGregor was born in Haskell County on December 21,
  1912, to Charles and Juliana McGregor; she graduated from Haskell
  High School and went on to study in York City and at Baylor
  University; in 1944, she married O. B. "Charlie" Ratliff, with whom
  she shared six decades before his passing; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Ratliff was devoted to her children, Almeida
  and Alan, and to her four grandchildren and nine
  great-grandchildren; active in her West Texas community, she
  participated in the Lubbock Garden Club and the Koshari Club, and
  she helped to establish Raintree Christian Church; she also shared
  her time with people in need, volunteering to drive her neighbors to
  doctor appointments; a gifted storyteller, she wrote a book about
  her family history, and she was a talented artist as well, known for
  her hand-carved birds; she enjoyed nature in all of its forms,
  whether she was taking long walks through the canyons of her family
  ranch or working in her garden; and
         WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Irene Ratliff
  will remember the way she touched their lives with her kindness, her
  warmth, and her wonderful sense of humor, and she will forever hold
  a treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Irene McGregor
  Ratliff and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to
  her daughter, Almeida Skeet Workman, and her husband, Don; to her
  son, Alan Ratliff, and his wife, Elizabeth; to her grandchildren,
  David Workman, Mark Workman, Susan Hare, and Margie Boyd; to her
  great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Quince, Neal, and Juliana Workman,
  Luke and Jake Boyd, and Juliana, Caleb, and Tressie Hare; and to her
  other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas House
  of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Irene
  Ratliff.
