R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Matador Ranch has been named the recipient of the
  2013 Best Remuda Award by the American Quarter Horse Association
  and its corporate partner Zoetis, and it is being honored at the
  Working Ranch Cowboys Association World Championship Ranch Rodeo
  taking place in Amarillo in November; and
         WHEREAS, Created by AQHA in 1992, the Remuda Award recognizes
  the dedicated efforts of establishments that breed and raise a
  specialized group of horses used for ranching and penning cattle;
  any ranch is eligible for the accolade if it has five or more
  American Quarter Horse mares used to produce horses for ranch work
  and is a member of the AQHA; and
         WHEREAS, The 130,000-acre Matador Ranch spans parts of
  Motley, Dickens, Floyd, Cottle, and Crosby Counties and includes
  acreage that was originally part of the Matador Land and Cattle Co.,
  which dates back to the late 1800s; since 1952, the ranch has been
  owned by The Matador Cattle Co., a division of Koch Agriculture
  Company; and
         WHEREAS, An AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeder, Matador has been
  affiliated with the association since the 1940s and is an AQHA
  35-year cumulative breeder; the ranch consistently produces horses
  that are able to safely traverse rough terrain and that have
  outstanding cow ability; the ranch has participated in AQHA ranch
  horse competitions and Ranch Horse Association of America events,
  and it is a host of the 2013 Legends of the American Quarter Horse
  Trail Ride; and
         WHEREAS, With its commitment to raising high-quality
  American Quarter Horses, Matador Ranch is meeting a significant
  need, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize the business at this
  point in its rich history; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Matador Ranch on its receipt of the
  2013 Best Remuda Award from the American Quarter Horse Association
  and Zoetis and extend to all those associated with the operation
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the ranch as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
