R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Sammy Garcia of Seabrook received a 2013 Stellar |
|
|
Award from the Rotary National Award for Space Achievement |
|
|
Foundation at a banquet held in Houston on April 26, 2013; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Presented annually, the Stellar Awards honor |
|
|
individuals and teams whose accomplishments hold the greatest |
|
|
promise for furthering future activities in space; nominations for |
|
|
the awards are solicited from leaders in government, the |
|
|
military, |
|
|
and industry, in four categories--early career, mid-career, |
|
|
late-career, and teams--and reviewed by an evaluation panel of |
|
|
distinguished scientists, engineers, managers, and academicians; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A recipient of the Stellar Award in the mid-career |
|
|
category, Sammy Garcia was recognized for his exceptional |
|
|
contributions as a project engineer and manager in space simulation |
|
|
and testing at the Johnson Space Center; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A graduate of Edcouch-Elsa High School, Mr. Garcia |
|
|
served in the U.S. Air Force as an airlift aircraft maintenance |
|
|
specialist and crew chief with the 314th Tactical Airlift Wing, 7th |
|
|
Special Operations Squadron from 1986 to 1989; he went on to earn |
|
|
his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from The University |
|
|
of Texas--Pan American in 1997 and has served as a senior project |
|
|
engineer at the Johnson Space Center in Houston for the past 16 |
|
|
years, working first for Lockheed Martin Space Operations and |
|
|
currently for Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc.; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Sammy Garcia has |
|
|
demonstrated outstanding ability and dedication, and his work has |
|
|
contributed significantly to the nation's space exploration |
|
|
program; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Sammy Garcia on receiving a 2013 |
|
|
Rotary NASA Stellar Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Garcia as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
