R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Glen Rose High School students Nathan Burroughs and |
|
Christine Sheets became a source of pride for their school and |
|
community with their performance at the University Interscholastic |
|
League Cross-Examination Debate State Meet held on March 11 and 12, |
|
2013, at The University of Texas at Austin; and |
|
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of coach Marsha Wiseman, |
|
Mr. Burroughs, a junior, and Ms. Sheets, a senior, earned their |
|
place at the state meet with a second-place finish at the District |
|
7-3A UIL Cross-Examination Debate Tournament, which took place on |
|
February 6, 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of the year, Mr. Burroughs and |
|
Ms. Sheets debated the resolution: "The United States federal |
|
government should substantially increase its transportation |
|
infrastructure investment in the United States"; at the state meet, |
|
the team advanced through the preliminary rounds, reaching the |
|
octofinals; and |
|
WHEREAS, These two outstanding young Texans have |
|
demonstrated tremendous skill in the art of debate and public |
|
speaking, and through their talent and commitment to excellence, |
|
they have brought great distinction to themselves and to Glen Rose |
|
High School; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Nathan Burroughs and Christine |
|
Sheets on their performance at the UIL Cross-Examination Debate |
|
State Tournament and extend to them sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success and a bright future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared |
|
for Mr. Burroughs and Ms. Sheets as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
