R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Dale "D. J." Dean of Newton High School |
|
|
distinguished himself by winning the 2A state championship in the |
|
|
boys' 400-meter dash and contributing to his team's gold-medal |
|
|
performance in the 4 x 100-meter relay at the 2013 University |
|
|
Interscholastic League Track & Field State Meet; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Joining other top Texas athletes at Mike A. Myers |
|
|
Stadium in Austin on May 11, Mr. Dean recorded a personal best time |
|
|
of 48.85 seconds in the 400 meters to claim the state title; in |
|
|
addition, he teamed with Romando Stewart, Calum Foster, and Kevin |
|
|
Shorter in winning the 400-meter relay with a time of 41.7 seconds; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This talented multisport athlete also played |
|
|
cornerback and quarterback on the Newton High football squad, and |
|
|
he will continue his gridiron career at the collegiate level at the |
|
|
University of Arkansas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With his hard work and unwavering commitment to |
|
|
excellence, D. J. Dean has established himself as one of the finest |
|
|
high school sprinters in the Lone Star State, and he is a source of |
|
|
great pride to his family and the Newton High School community; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Dale "D. J." Dean on winning gold |
|
|
medals in the 2A 400-meter dash and the 4 x 100-meter relay at the |
|
|
UIL Track & Field State Meet and extend to him sincere best wishes |
|
|
for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Dean as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
