R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dale "D. J." Dean of Newton High School
  distinguished himself by winning the 2A state championship in the
  boys' 400-meter dash and contributing to his team's gold-medal
  performance in the 4 x 100-meter relay at the 2013 University
  Interscholastic League Track & Field State Meet; and
         WHEREAS, Joining other top Texas athletes at Mike A. Myers
  Stadium in Austin on May 11, Mr. Dean recorded a personal best time
  of 48.85 seconds in the 400 meters to claim the state title; in
  addition, he teamed with Romando Stewart, Calum Foster, and Kevin
  Shorter in winning the 400-meter relay with a time of 41.7 seconds;
  and
         WHEREAS, This talented multisport athlete also played
  cornerback and quarterback on the Newton High football squad, and
  he will continue his gridiron career at the collegiate level at the
  University of Arkansas; and
         WHEREAS, With his hard work and unwavering commitment to
  excellence, D. J. Dean has established himself as one of the finest
  high school sprinters in the Lone Star State, and he is a source of
  great pride to his family and the Newton High School community; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dale "D. J." Dean on winning gold
  medals in the 2A 400-meter dash and the 4 x 100-meter relay at the
  UIL Track & Field State Meet and extend to him sincere best wishes
  for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Dean as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
