R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
  and celebrate the life of Jo Ann Zion of Austin, who passed away on
  April 8, 2013, at the age of 81; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of Joe Shaffer and Willie May Shaffer,
  Jo Ann Zion was born in San Antonio on June 16, 1931; she spent much
  of her childhood in her beloved Marathon, enjoying the beauty and
  adventure of West Texas, where her uncle, Buster Clark, owned a
  ranch in the Big Bend country and her aunt, Lucille French Clark,
  ran French's General Store, a local fixture from the mid-1800s
  until the 1970s; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Zion graduated from San Antonio's Baptist
  Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1952; over the years, she
  proudly served as a registered nurse, caring for adults and
  children at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Sheppard-Allen
  Hospital in Burnet, and St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in
  Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and
         WHEREAS, Devoted to her family, Mrs. Zion shared 47 years of
  marriage with her husband, Dr. Tom Zion, whom she supported through
  medical school and accompanied to Air Force and medical postings in
  Pennsylvania, Nebraska, and Texas; she took great pride in her
  three children, Mark, Jim, and Jane, and they in her; and
         WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan lived a rich and purposeful life,
  reading prolifically for both knowledge and joy, supporting liberal
  causes and social justice, and always caring for other people and
  for animals, as reflected in her volunteer work for hospice and for
  the Hill Country SPCA; and
         WHEREAS, Jo Ann Zion brightened the lives of countless people
  during her years on this earth, and she will be deeply missed by all
  those who had the good fortune to know her; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jo Ann Zion and
  extend sincere sympathy to her loved ones: to her sons, Mark Zion
  and his wife, Diane, and Jim Zion and his wife, Karen; to her
  daughter, Jane Zion; to her niece, Kathryn Martin; and to her other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jo Ann
  Zion.
