R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Texas A&M University and The Association of Former
  Students have honored James R. Thompson with a 2013 Distinguished
  Alumnus Award; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of the class of 1968, Jim Thompson earned
  a bachelor of science degree in architectural construction from
  Texas A&M and was a member of Ross Volunteers and the Corps of
  Cadets; he served as an instructor pilot in the United States Air
  Force until 1973, worked in the construction industry for a decade,
  and then founded James R. Thompson, Inc., an award-winning
  commercial general contracting firm; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson remains active with his alma mater as a
  member of the Kaufman County A&M Club, Class Agent for the Class
  of '68, and chair of the Citizens Facility Advisory Council; he
  also was on the school's Construction Industry Advisory Council,
  the College of Architecture Advisory Council, the Chancellor's
  Century Council, the Presidential Board of Visitors, the A&M Legacy
  Society, and the Corps of Cadets Association; moreover, he has sat
  on the advisory board of the 12th Man Foundation and the board of
  The Association of Former Students; he chaired the Building
  Enhancement Committee and played an integral role in several major
  campus projects; in 2000, he received the Outstanding Alumni Award
  from the College of Architecture, and he was inducted into the Corps
  of Cadets Hall of Honor in 2011; this dynamic Aggie has also funded
  a President's Endowed Scholarship, a Corps 21 Endowed Scholarship,
  two Sul Ross Endowed Scholarships, and a Construction Science
  Endowed Scholarship; and
         WHEREAS, Engaged in his home community as well, Mr. Thompson
  served on the Kaufman Independent School District Board for 15
  years and helped to establish the Kaufman ISD Scholarship
  Foundation; in addition, he is a former trustee of the Texas
  Association of School Boards and served as a member of the Kaufman
  County Appraisal District board; and
         WHEREAS, Blessed with a fine family, he is supported in all
  his endeavors by his wife, Donna Beth, and they are the proud
  parents of three sons; and
         WHEREAS, Jim Thompson has made immeasurable contributions to
  the Texas A&M community, and he is indeed a worthy recipient of this
  highest honor bestowed upon a former student of the institution;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate James R. Thompson on his receipt of
  a Texas A&M University and The Association of Former Students 2013
  Distinguished Alumnus Award and extend to him sincere best wishes
  for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Thompson as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
