R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great pride
  in honoring the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, an
  educational agency and a member of The Texas A&M University System,
  for its many contributions to the El Paso community; and
         WHEREAS, The mission of AgriLife Extension is to provide
  quality, relevant outreach and continuing education programs and
  services to area residents; working with the 10 universities and 8
  state agencies of The Texas A&M University System as well as with
  other organizations, the group brings vital resources to El Pasoans
  in an effort to address local issues and solve local problems; and
         WHEREAS, AgriLife Extension in El Paso offers unbiased,
  research-based information, educational programs, and technical
  assistance in the following core service areas: 4-H & Youth
  Development, Agriculture, Community and Economic Development, Food
  and Nutrition Education, Family and Consumer Sciences,
  Horticulture, Integrated Pest Management, and Natural Resources;
  and
         WHEREAS, Supporting El Paso agriculture, the extension hosts
  workshops and educational programs for local producers and conducts
  research and demonstrations to determine which innovations have the
  potential to increase profitability and reduce environmental
  impact; and
         WHEREAS, The group also conserves and preserves our natural
  resources through its Master Gardener program, a 15-week course on
  landscape design, plant and soil science, insect management, and
  plant disease, as well as its Master Naturalist program, which
  provides in-depth training in wildlife and natural resource
  management taught by recognized experts in the field, and its
  Sports Athletic Field Education program, which offers turf
  management assistance for sports field maintenance personnel; and
         WHEREAS, AgriLife Extension in El Paso further educates
  families and consumers through its nutrition initiatives,
  including Better Living for Texans and the Expanded Food and
  Nutrition Education Program, which teach limited resource families
  about food safety, proper nutrition, budgeting, consumer decision
  making, and food choices; in addition, the organization contributes
  to the youth of El Paso through 4-H clubs, which allow boys and
  girls to complete projects in community service and to participate
  in other special activities; and
         WHEREAS, Embracing its values of citizen and community
  involvement, scientifically based education, lifelong learning,
  and volunteerism, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is a
  vital asset to greater El Paso County, and it is indeed worthy of
  special recognition for its achievements in promoting knowledge to
  benefit families and communities; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby commend the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service
  for providing necessary resources to the El Paso community and
  extend to all those associated with the organization sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in El Paso as
  an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
