|
|
|
WHEREAS, San Elizario High School students Daniel Calderon |
|
|
and Michael Johnson have become a source of pride for their school |
|
|
and community by qualifying for the University Interscholastic |
|
|
League Track & Field State Meet, which was held on May 10 and 11, |
|
|
2013, in Austin; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, These accomplished members of the Eagles track team |
|
|
earned their place at the state meet with their performances at the |
|
|
4A Region I competition on April 26 and 27 in Abilene; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Calderon, a senior, won the 400-meter race with |
|
|
a time of 48.41 seconds, while Mr. Johnson, a sophomore, claimed |
|
|
victory in the 800 meters, crossing the finish line in 1 minute, |
|
|
55.45 seconds; both athletes went on to match their skills against |
|
|
the other top runners in Texas as they vied for the title of state |
|
|
champion; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under the knowledgeable guidance of coaches Cesar |
|
|
Morales and Michael Warfield, these two young men have |
|
|
distinguished themselves as competitors of admirable ability and |
|
|
dedication, and they may take justifiable pride in their |
|
|
achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Daniel Calderon and Michael |
|
|
Johnson of San Elizario High School on qualifying for the 2013 UIL |
|
|
Track & Field State Meet and extend to them sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Calderon and Mr. Johnson as an expression of high |
|
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
