R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Corbin Marak, a member of the McClendon Scholars |
|
Program, has provided valuable support in the office of State |
|
Representative Lois W. Kolkhorst during the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature; and |
|
WHEREAS, Created in 2004, the McClendon Scholars Program, |
|
which is also known as The University of Texas at San Antonio |
|
Legislative Scholars Program, is a collaborative initiative |
|
between Representative Ruth Jones McClendon and the UTSA Institute |
|
for Law and Public Affairs; the program gives students who have an |
|
interest in public policy the opportunity to work as interns at the |
|
State Capitol during regular legislative sessions; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Marak has drawn on a broad range of experience |
|
during his tenure as a McClendon Scholar, having served as a |
|
volunteer for former Congressman Charles Gonzalez and worked as an |
|
intern in the Texas Attorney General's Office; since joining the |
|
office of Representative Kolkhorst, he has contributed to the |
|
workings of state government firsthand and gained increased |
|
knowledge of public service; and |
|
WHEREAS, After attending Hendrickson High School in |
|
Pflugerville, Mr. Marak graduated summa cum laude from UTSA with a |
|
degree in political science; an exemplary student, he was a member |
|
of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, was named to the |
|
President's List on numerous occasions, and was honored as the Top |
|
Political Science Scholar; he also earned a certificate in legal |
|
reasoning from the Summer Law School Preparation Academy, as a |
|
preliminary to pursuing a law degree; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to achieving an outstanding academic |
|
record at UTSA, Mr. Marak served as a Supplemental Instruction |
|
Leader and played on the Roadrunners baseball team; moreover, he |
|
has given generously of his time as an usher at the First United |
|
Methodist Church of Round Rock and as a volunteer with the First |
|
Baptist Church of Round Rock and with a multitude of youth sports |
|
camps, including First Tee of Greater Austin; and |
|
WHEREAS, Corbin Marak has maintained the tradition of |
|
excellence that is emblematic of McClendon Scholars and has |
|
performed his duties in Representative Kolkhorst's office with |
|
skill and dedication; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Corbin Marak for his service as a |
|
McClendon Scholar in the office of State Representative Lois |
|
W. Kolkhorst and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success in all his endeavors; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Marak as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
