R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
  memories of William Phillips of Canton, who passed away on February
  17, 2013, at the age of 77; and
         WHEREAS, Billy Phillips was born on July 18, 1935, in Caddo
  Gap, Arkansas, to Lee Roy Diffie and Minnie Lee Johnson Diffie; he
  served his country in the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Army,
  and he worked as a truck driver for more than three and a half
  decades, including 21 years with Texas Oklahoma Express; Mr.
  Phillips logged three million miles without a single accident or
  ticket, and he also won multiple trophies in truck rodeo
  competitions; in his leisure time he enjoyed gold prospecting and
  participating in First Monday Trade Days; and
         WHEREAS, A man of faith, Mr. Phillips belonged to the
  Wentworth Church of Christ and helped to minister to members of the
  church living in nursing homes; he shared 55 years of marriage with
  his wife, Elizabeth, and was the father of two children, William and
  Jillinda; with the passing years, he welcomed 10 grandchildren and
  14 great-grandchildren into his family; and
         WHEREAS, Billy Phillips lived a life that was rich in the
  intangibles that matter most, and he will be deeply missed by all
  those who had the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Billy Phillips and
  extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
  Elizabeth Phillips; to his son, William Robert Phillips II, and his
  wife, Melinda; to his daughter, Jillinda Smith, and her husband,
  Troy; to his grandchildren, Steve, Joey, Robbie, Josh, Will, and
  Justin Phillips, Kimberly Townsend, Stephanie Countryman, Ryan
  Stone, and Timmy Smith; to his great-grandchildren; and to his
  other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Billy
  Phillips.
