R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Manuel Dominguez of La Feria has distinguished
  himself as a pillar of his community; and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1933 in Relampago, Mr. Dominguez traces his
  roots in Hidalgo County back for generations; one of his
  grandfathers was a Hidalgo County constable, and his
  great-grandfather was a county commissioner; while growing up, Mr.
  Dominguez helped out on his family's farm and ranch, and he later
  coordinated and managed crews that worked on farms and in the
  packing sheds; he met his wife, the former Olga Gonzalez, while
  working in West Texas, and the couple married in 1960; they soon
  moved to La Feria, where they raised their 10 children; Manuel and
  Olga Dominguez have consistently emphasized the importance of
  education, and they take pride in their children's educational
  achievements, which include 10 bachelor's degrees, 5 master's
  degrees, and a law degree; Noemi Dominguez Elementary School in La
  Feria is named for their late daughter, who became an elementary
  school teacher; and
         WHEREAS, In honor of a second child, Adrian, who had spina
  bifida, Mr. Dominguez founded the Adrian Dominguez Memorial
  Scholarship 5K Road Race and 1 Mile Walk in 1996; now the
  longest-established five kilometer race in the Rio Grande Valley,
  the event benefits the Los Diez Education Foundation, which awards
  scholarships to area students; so far, 54 students have received a
  collective total of more than $20,000 to pursue higher education;
  and
         WHEREAS, For his notable community service, Mr. Dominguez is
  being presented the key to La Feria by the members of the city
  council; at the age of nearly 80, this esteemed Texan still works
  full-time; he is a valued member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic
  Church and a charter member of the local chapter of the Knights of
  Columbus; and
         WHEREAS, Manuel Dominguez has set an outstanding example of
  public-spirited engagement, and in so doing, he has earned the
  respect and admiration of many fellow citizens; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize Manuel Dominguez for his significant
  contributions to his community and extend to him deep appreciation
  for his charitable endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Dominguez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
