R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The esteemed group Los Paisanos was inducted into |
|
the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center Conjunto Music Hall of Fame |
|
during the 32nd annual Tejano Conjunto Festival in San Antonio in |
|
May 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1962, brothers Carlos, Juan, Raul, and Gabriel |
|
Johnson, scions of a musical family, formed Los Paisanos in San |
|
Antonio; the band developed a strikingly original style by |
|
incorporating diatonic button accordion, piano accordion, and |
|
keyboards into its arrangements, and audiences thrilled to the |
|
emotional, operatic vocals of front man Carlos "Chalito" Johnson; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Los Paisanos recorded a number of early hits, |
|
including their signature song, "La del Moño Colorado"; evolving |
|
with the times, they scored a gold record in the 1980s with "El |
|
Gorrion y Yo"; although Raul Johnson died in 1996 and Gabriel |
|
Johnson in 2009, Chalito and Juan Johnson continue to perform with |
|
the group from time to time, and they reunited for the induction |
|
ceremony; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, Los Paisanos have brought joy to |
|
innumerable conjunto fans through their distinctive sound and |
|
heartfelt renditions of beloved songs, and this prestigious |
|
accolade is a testament to the enduring appeal of their music; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Los Paisanos on their induction |
|
into the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center Conjunto Music Hall of Fame |
|
and extend to Chalito and Juan Johnson sincere best wishes for the |
|
future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
