R E S O L U T I O N

|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Sonia Adriana Noyola was honored with a 2013 |
|
|
Educational Leader Award from the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Founding |
|
|
Chapter of the American GI Forum of Texas on May 9, 2013; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The American GI Forum was organized in Corpus |
|
|
Christi in 1948 by army veteran Dr. Hector P. Garcia to promote |
|
|
equality for Hispanic American service members; the AGIF has since |
|
|
been at the forefront of civil rights struggles and today supports |
|
|
several key programs with a focus on Hispanic education, veterans |
|
|
outreach, and employment; the group's inaugural chapter in Corpus |
|
|
Christi, named for its founder, annually recognizes area leaders in |
|
|
education; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A highly regarded educator with more than 15 years |
|
|
of experience, Dr. Noyola had the importance of education instilled |
|
|
in her from an early age as the daughter of activist Daniel |
|
|
Noyola, Sr., who collaborated with Dr. Garcia; today she teaches |
|
|
courses in government and political science as a nationally board |
|
|
certified dual credit instructor at Collegiate High School on the |
|
|
campus of Del Mar College; moreover, she is the founder and sponsor |
|
|
of the Collegiate Civic Minded Students club and helps organize its |
|
|
annual EPIC (Establishing Partners In Communities) Conference; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Teachers play a vital role in preparing young Texans |
|
|
for the challenges and opportunities of the future, and this award |
|
|
justly recognizes Sonia Noyola, who exemplifies the highest ideals |
|
|
of her profession; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Sonia Adriana Noyola on her |
|
|
receipt of a 2013 Educational Leader Award from the Dr. Hector |
|
|
P. Garcia Founding Chapter of the American GI Forum of Texas and |
|
|
extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success with her |
|
|
important work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Dr. Noyola as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
