R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Cassandra Alvarado has been named a 2013 |
|
|
Dr. Hector P. Garcia Scholar by the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Founding |
|
|
Chapter of the American G.I. Forum of Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The American G.I. Forum was established by this |
|
|
esteemed civil rights pioneer and education advocate, whose motto |
|
|
was "Education is our freedom, and freedom should be everybody's |
|
|
business"; since 1948, the founding chapter has awarded more than |
|
|
$250,000 to college-bound students in the Coastal Bend region; |
|
|
scholarship applicants must have a grade point average of at least |
|
|
2.5 and must submit an original essay on how the achievements of |
|
|
Dr. Garcia have contributed to their lives; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of proud parents Eddie Alvarado and |
|
|
Leticia Reyes, Cassandra Alvarado is a senior at Carroll High |
|
|
School in Corpus Christi and plans to attend Del Mar College after |
|
|
graduation; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This noteworthy young Texan has worked toward her |
|
|
goals with great diligence and determination, and her |
|
|
accomplishments are a source of tremendous pride to her family and |
|
|
school; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Cassandra Alvarado on her |
|
|
selection as a 2013 Dr. Hector P. Garcia Scholar and extend to her |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Alvarado as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
