R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Alfred |
|
Ortiz, a veteran law officer who passed away on March 1, 2013, at |
|
the age of 62; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Ortiz served his fellow citizens with |
|
distinction during a career that spanned 39 years and included |
|
tenures in the Texas and New Mexico Departments of Public Safety, |
|
sheriff's offices in Jim Wells, Duval, Brooks, and Nueces Counties, |
|
and the Premont Police Department, which he led as chief; and |
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan devoted a decade to the Corpus |
|
Christi Independent School District police force from 1993 to 2003; |
|
his concern for the welfare of the district was reflected in his |
|
judicious hiring practices and succession planning, which ensured |
|
that future generations of area students could enjoy a safe |
|
learning environment; an innovator in the field of school policing, |
|
he helped to secure funding and develop staffing formulas that |
|
transformed the CCISD police force into a model department with 32 |
|
sworn officers; and |
|
WHEREAS, Alfred Ortiz was an inspiration to his community and |
|
to his family, which included his wife of 39 years, Elizabeth, his |
|
daughter, Kimberly Ortiz Rayos, his sons, Christopher and Patrick |
|
Ortiz, and his eight grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Though Alfred Ortiz is deeply missed, his legacy |
|
lives on in the institutions he nurtured and in the myriad |
|
accomplishments he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Alfred Ortiz and |
|
extend sincere sympathy to his relatives and many friends; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Alfred |
|
Ortiz. |
