R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Ryan Hoffman has been named a 2013 Dr. Hector P. |
|
|
Garcia Scholar by the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Founding Chapter of the |
|
|
American G.I. Forum of Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The American G.I. Forum was established by this |
|
|
esteemed civil rights pioneer and education advocate, whose motto |
|
|
was "Education is our freedom, and freedom should be everybody's |
|
|
business"; since 1948, the founding chapter has awarded more than |
|
|
$250,000 to college-bound students in the Coastal Bend region; |
|
|
scholarship applicants must have a grade point average of at least |
|
|
2.5 and must submit an original essay on how the achievements of |
|
|
Dr. Garcia have contributed to their lives; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The son of proud parents Joe Soliz, Jr., and Angela |
|
|
Hoffman-Soliz, Ryan Hoffman is a senior at King High School in |
|
|
Corpus Christi and plans to attend Texas State University after |
|
|
graduation; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This noteworthy young Texan has worked toward his |
|
|
goals with great diligence and determination, and his |
|
|
accomplishments are a source of tremendous pride to his family and |
|
|
school; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Ryan Hoffman on his selection as a |
|
|
2013 Dr. Hector P. Garcia Scholar and extend to him sincere best |
|
|
wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Hoffman as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
