R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Michael Johnson, a sophomore at San Elizario High
  School, made an outstanding showing at the University
  Interscholastic League Track & Field State Meet on May 10, 2013, in
  Austin; and
         WHEREAS, Facing off against a field of the top 4A runners in
  Texas in the 800-meter event, Mr. Johnson earned the silver medal
  with a time of 1 minute, 54.95 seconds, besting his winning time at
  the regional championships by a half-second and establishing a new
  school record for the distance; and
         WHEREAS, This talented young man was guided to victory with
  the able assistance of coaches Cesar Morales and Michael Warfield;
  in claiming his place on the podium, Mr. Johnson becomes the first
  Eagle track athlete to capture a medal at the state championships
  since 1977, when his uncle Ray was the winner of the mile event; and
         WHEREAS, Through talent and determination, Michael Johnson
  has already earned a special place in the history of San Elizario
  athletics, and he is poised for further success in the years ahead;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Michael Johnson on winning the
  silver medal in the 4A 800-meter race at the UIL Track & Field State
  Meet and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Johnson as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
