R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, April 28, 2013, marked a significant milestone in |
|
|
the life of J. D. Coleman, for on that day he celebrated his 85th |
|
|
birthday; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The son of Daley Coleman and Gertrude Casmere, |
|
|
J. D. Coleman was born in Dallas in 1928; following his graduation |
|
|
from Lincoln High School in 1946, he attended Wiley College, and he |
|
|
also served his country in the U.S. military; his notable career |
|
|
included tenures with the Dallas Independent School District, the |
|
|
Old Mill Inn, and American Airlines, where he was employed for more |
|
|
than two decades and became the first African American ramp |
|
|
supervisor; today, he remains active as a school crossing guard; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Coleman has been married to his loving wife, |
|
|
Willie Mae Coleman, since 1996, and he is the father of six |
|
|
children, Raysonia, Julia, Arlean, Iba, Keith, and the late Dwight |
|
|
Coleman; passionate about the history of his culture and his |
|
|
hometown, he gives back to his fellow residents through his work as |
|
|
a youth tutor and mentor; he is also active in St. Luke "Community" |
|
|
United Methodist Church and the Lincoln--Booker T. Washington High |
|
|
School Alumni Association; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, J. D. Coleman is a blessing to his friends and loved |
|
|
ones, and it is a pleasure to recognize him for eight and a half |
|
|
decades of life well lived; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate J. D. Coleman on his 85th birthday |
|
|
and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, |
|
|
be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Coleman as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
