R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Kathy Shelton is concluding her collegiate athletic |
|
|
career during 2013, having distinguished herself as a member of the |
|
|
Baylor University softball team for the past four years; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This versatile player graduated from McKinney North |
|
|
High School, where her impressive abilities gained national |
|
|
attention; recruited to play for Baylor by head coach Glenn Moore, |
|
|
Ms. Shelton made an immediate impact for the Lady Bears, starting |
|
|
in 37 games as a freshman and recording a perfect 17-for-17 mark in |
|
|
stolen bases; the following year, she led the team in batting |
|
|
average, hits, runs, and stolen bases, and she helped Baylor reach |
|
|
the semifinals of the Women's College World Series; as a junior, she |
|
|
was one of only two team members to start all 56 games, and she led |
|
|
the Big 12 in stolen bases; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Shelton's exemplary performance has continued |
|
|
during her senior season, and the boost she supplies to the Lady |
|
|
Bears as a hitter, base runner, and fielder is matched by her |
|
|
exceptional leadership; she is a source of inspiration, advice, and |
|
|
encouragement for her teammates and sets a strong example through |
|
|
her work ethic; her accomplishments on the field have merited a |
|
|
number of awards during her time in the Baylor uniform, including |
|
|
her selection as an All-Big 12 player in both her sophomore and |
|
|
junior years, and she is also a two-time Academic All-Big 12 |
|
|
honoree; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An athlete possessing great skill and dedication, |
|
|
Kathy Shelton has won the respect and admiration of her coaches, |
|
|
teammates, and opponents, and she can always remember with pride |
|
|
her notable contributions to the Baylor softball team; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor Kathy Shelton for her achievements as a |
|
|
member of the Baylor University softball team and extend to her |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Shelton as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
