R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Further establishing their school's reputation as a
  golf powerhouse, both the girls' team and the boys' team of Vanguard
  College Preparatory School in Waco were crowned 2A champions at the
  Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools state
  tournament, held on April 29 and 30 at the Stonetree Golf Club in
  Killeen; and
         WHEREAS, En route to their ninth consecutive title, the boys'
  team shot a combined score of 633 to best runner-up Geneva School of
  Boerne by seven strokes; the Vikings played consistently throughout
  the tournament, with Cooper Anderton leading the team with a 155 to
  earn the sixth-best overall score; Lewis Aynesworth, Max Harmon,
  and Connor Caldwell placed just behind, in 7th, 8th, and 10th,
  respectively, and Matthew Parks was among the top 20 finishers; and
         WHEREAS, The girls' squad earned its first state championship
  since 1996 with a thrilling seven-stroke win over Geneva; ahead by
  just one stroke going into the final 18 holes, the team emerged
  victorious when Audra Atchley, one of the last Vanguard golfers on
  the course, posted a 113 for the round and 225 for the tournament,
  six strokes below what she needed to seal the win; Kaitlyn Cummings
  paced the Lady Vikings throughout the two days of competition,
  tallying a 153 to take fourth place in the individual standings; she
  was followed by Mills Chenot with 165 and Grace Gardner at 190,
  giving the squad three players in the top 10, and Ms. Atchley and
  Grace Serr rounded out the scoring for the Lady Vikings; both of the
  Vanguard teams were guided by coach Jon Antunes; and
         WHEREAS, Winning a state title requires focus,
  determination, and an unflagging commitment to excellence, and the
  members of the Vanguard College Preparatory School girls' and boys'
  golf teams may take great pride in proving themselves equal to the
  task; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Vanguard College Preparatory
  School girls' and boys' golf teams on becoming the TAPPS 2A state
  champions for 2013 and extend to the teams' players and to Coach
  Antunes sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
  for the teams as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
  Representatives.
