R E S O L U T I O N

|
WHEREAS, Kaela Smith of McGregor has been named a winner in |
|
|
the 2013 Treasures of the Texas Coast Children's Art Contest |
|
|
sponsored by the Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach program; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This annual competition encourages Texas |
|
|
schoolchildren to learn about the Texas coast and express their |
|
|
knowledge through art; out of the 3,382 entries this year, 40 works |
|
|
were selected to receive top honors, and winning entries will be |
|
|
featured in the 2014 Adopt-A-Beach calendar; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Kaela Smith is a sixth-grade student at River Valley |
|
|
Intermediate School; her exceptional work, one of 10 pieces |
|
|
selected in the Grade 6 category, earned her a number of prizes, |
|
|
including a ticket to the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi and |
|
|
passes to Schlitterbahn Waterpark; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This fun and inventive competition inspires |
|
|
creativity and environmental awareness among Texas youngsters, and |
|
|
Miss Smith may indeed take great pride in placing among the |
|
|
contest's winners; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Kaela Smith on being named a winner |
|
|
in the 2013 Treasures of the Texas Coast Children's Art Contest and |
|
|
extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Miss Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
