R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Eliana Briceno, a member of the McClendon Scholars |
|
|
Program, has provided valuable support as an intern in the office of |
|
|
State Representative Dawnna Dukes during the 83rd Regular Session; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Created in 2004, the McClendon Scholars Program, |
|
|
which is also known as the UTSA Legislative Scholars Program, is a |
|
|
collaborative initiative between State Representative Ruth Jones |
|
|
McClendon and The University of Texas at San Antonio Institute for |
|
|
Law and Public Affairs; the program gives students with an interest |
|
|
in public policy the opportunity to work as interns at the State |
|
|
Capitol during legislative sessions; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Since joining the office of Representative Dukes, |
|
|
Ms. Briceno has contributed to the workings of state government |
|
|
firsthand; in addition to learning more about the legislative |
|
|
process and the issues facing the citizens of the Lone Star State, |
|
|
she has gained valuable experience in the field of public service; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Briceno is majoring in Spanish and sociology and |
|
|
minoring in legal studies at UTSA; she is active in the Volunteer |
|
|
Organization Involving Community Education and Services (VOICES), |
|
|
for which she has organized alternative spring break opportunities |
|
|
with Habitat for Humanity and coordinated fund-raising and |
|
|
recruitment efforts; in recognition of her achievements, she has |
|
|
been included in Who's Who at UTSA and is a recipient of the |
|
|
Outstanding Latino Student Leadership Award; following her |
|
|
graduation, she plans to begin the International Studies |
|
|
Certificate Program at Johns Hopkins University; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Performing her duties in the office of |
|
|
Representative Dukes with skill and dedication, Eliana Briceno has |
|
|
maintained the tradition of excellence that is emblematic of |
|
|
McClendon Scholars, and she is indeed deserving of special |
|
|
recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commend Eliana Briceno for her service as a |
|
|
McClendon Scholar in the office of State Representative Dawnna |
|
|
Dukes and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in |
|
|
all her endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Briceno as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
