R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, With the passing of Peggy Seale Smith of Huntsville
  on December 11, 2012, the State of Texas lost an accomplished
  businesswoman and a dedicated public servant; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Halletsville on January 27, 1953, to Billy
  and Charlene Seale, the former Peggy Seale grew up in Edna and
  attended Blinn College, The University of Texas at Austin, and Sam
  Houston State University; she began her notable career in
  government with the State Comptroller of Public Accounts and went
  on to serve as chief of staff for State Representative Bill Blythe;
  appointed by Governor Mark White to the State Pension Review Board
  in 1984, she was subsequently appointed by Governors Bill Clements
  and Ann Richards to serve on the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles;
  and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Smith left the public sector to work with
  McAdams Consulting, during which time she was involved with the
  development of newly built private prisons throughout Texas; in
  2001, she returned to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as
  manager for the Office of Space Management, in which capacity she
  served with distinction until her retirement in 2005; and
         WHEREAS, A successful entrepreneur as well, Ms. Smith
  operated a catering business and established Savvy Homestyles, an
  interior decorating and staging company borne out of her years in
  real estate investment; moreover, she played a prominent role in
  such organizations as the Huntsville ISD School Board, the
  Houston-Galveston Area Council of Governments, the Huntsville
  Education Foundation, the Huntsville Board of Realtors, the
  Huntsville-Walker County Conference and Tourist Bureau, and the
  Huntsville Leadership Institute-Walker County; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Smith was also a woman of faith who greatly
  enjoyed a wealth of diverse interests, including cooking, reading,
  shopping, and hunting, as well as outdoor activities and dogs; her
  tremendous intellect and energy made a positive difference in
  numerous fields of endeavor, and her achievements will continue to
  resonate in the Lone Star State and beyond for many years to come;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Peggy Seale Smith and
  extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her mother,
  Charlene Rightmer Seale; to her husband of 16 years, David Smith; to
  her daughter, McKinsey McAdams Copeland, and her husband, Baron; to
  her stepson, Hunter Smith; to her sister, Patti Kay Holly, and her
  husband, Dale; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Peggy Seale
  Smith.
