R E S O L U T I O N

|
|
WHEREAS, The Valley View High School boys' soccer team |
|
|
enjoyed an outstanding 2013 season, advancing all the way to the |
|
|
University Interscholastic League 4A state semifinals; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After losing just one game in the regular season and |
|
|
claiming their third consecutive district championship, the Tigers |
|
|
posted thrilling playoff wins against Raymondville, Rio Grande |
|
|
City, Mission, San Antonio Harlandale, and Dripping Springs High |
|
|
Schools to earn a place in the regional final; matched against |
|
|
Georgetown in that game, Valley View used its aggressive style of |
|
|
offense to score three goals in the first half en route to an |
|
|
impressive victory; the win allowed the Tigers to advance to the |
|
|
state tournament for the first time in the team's history, and the |
|
|
players made a valiant effort to claim the title before suffering a |
|
|
hard-fought loss to El Paso Del Valle; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Tiger players Jose Soto and Reyes Espino were named |
|
|
to the 4A All-Tournament Team, and Valley View also benefited from |
|
|
the valuable contributions made throughout the year by the other |
|
|
members on the roster: Livan Hernandez, Javier Olvera, Luis |
|
|
Rodriguez, Daniel Lince, Rene Garcia, Erick Amador, Arturo Ponce, |
|
|
Jesus A. Morales, Jose Sotelo, Emanuel Vasquez, Alexis De La Garza, |
|
|
Arnoldo Ventura, Eddie Montalvo, Evan Alonso, Adrian Flores, |
|
|
Rubisel Bastar, Juan Vasquez, Andres Lopez, Erik Martinez, Jose |
|
|
Guadalupe Flores, Jose Aranda, and Carlos Cortez; these talented |
|
|
athletes were ably guided by head coach Damian Magallan and |
|
|
assistant coaches Antonio De la Rosa, Alex De Leon, Rick Delgado, |
|
|
Jorge Leal, Mark Leal, Julio Martinez, and Martin Medina; |
|
|
additional support was provided by the team's trainers, Lori |
|
|
Armendariz, Luis Salgado, and Eduardo Perez; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Playing with exceptional skill and intensity, the |
|
|
Valley View Tigers earned a place among the top teams in Texas, and |
|
|
these dedicated competitors are a source of tremendous pride to |
|
|
their classmates and their many supporters in the local community; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Valley View High School boys' |
|
|
soccer team on reaching the 4A semifinals in the 2013 UIL state |
|
|
tournament and extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff |
|
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
