R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Veterans Band of Corpus Christi is celebrating
  its 27th anniversary June 2-3, 2013; and
         WHEREAS, This distinguished ensemble was founded on June 3,
  1986, by Ram Chavez, a music educator and highly decorated veteran
  of the United States Army; the band developed a reputation for both
  musical talent and showmanship, and through the years, it has
  performed at numerous high-profile events across Texas and beyond;
  on Veterans Day in 1994, it played at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial
  in Washington, D.C., and it has also performed for President George
  H. W. Bush in our nation's capital and for President Bill Clinton on
  a visit to Brownsville; its services are much in demand at change of
  command ceremonies for all branches of the military; and
         WHEREAS, Under the direction of Mr. Chavez, this popular band
  benefits by the ongoing contributions of 12 charter members who
  continue to share their time and talents: John Earhart, Louis
  Bazaldua, Albert Arzuaga, Ed Heskett, Robert Callejo, Frank De Los
  Santos, Tom Dreyer, Juan Lugo, Rene Marroquin, Greg Mendoza,
  Gabriel Escobar, and Larry Villareal; in addition, the ensemble
  includes emeritus senior members Beto Rios and L. E. "Bubba"
  Jacobs, and active members Bob Allen, Alex Muro, Alfonso Rivera,
  Dan Carranza, George Torres, Rene Cantu, Richard Martinez, Juan
  Ledesma, Kevin Aguilar-Ferreri, Jose Barrenties, Ernest Phillips,
  Tilden Smith, Larry White, Mike Malloy, Adalberto "Beto" Palacios,
  Tony Acevedo, Daniel Brown, Gilbert Luna, Dr. Rick Lazrate, Juan
  Sanchez, Thomas Caldera, Fernando Cruz, Dennis Galloway, Escobedo
  Jesse, Leo Garcia, Amos Griffin, Mark Johnson, Bill McClintock,
  Terry Harris, Sisto Hernandez, and Robert Romero; and
         WHEREAS, For more than a quarter-century, the Veterans Band
  of Corpus Christi has provided stirring musical accompaniment for
  patriotic events and military ceremonies, and it is indeed fitting
  to recognize these civic-minded musicians for their service; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 27th anniversary of the Veterans
  Band of Corpus Christi and commend its members for their
  outstanding contributions; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the band as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
