R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Dallas Rushing of Axtell High School made a superb
  showing at the 2013 University Interscholastic League Track & Field
  State Meet, winning two titles and etching his name in the record
  books by recording the fastest boys' 800-meter time in the history
  of 1A competition; and
         WHEREAS, A senior competing in 1A Division 1, Mr. Rushing
  closed the final lap of the 800 meters with a burst of speed that
  propelled him to victory with a remarkable time of 1 minute, 52.24
  seconds, claiming the state crown by more than five seconds over the
  second-place finisher; in so doing, he shattered the previous 1A
  standard by more than two seconds; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Rushing also became state champion in the
  3,200-meter event, finishing with a time of 10 minutes, 9.66
  seconds; in addition to his two titles in 2013, he also won a gold
  medal at the 2012 state meet in the 1,600 meters, giving him state
  crowns in three different distance races over the span of two years;
  he will continue his athletic endeavors at the collegiate level in
  the fall of 2013 as a member of the Texas A&M University running
  program; and
         WHEREAS, With his exceptional demonstration of speed,
  endurance, and determination, Dallas Rushing has earned the
  admiration of his classmates and his many supporters in the local
  community, and he may take justifiable pride in his outstanding
  accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dallas Rushing on winning state
  titles in the 800- and 3,200-meter races and on establishing a new
  state record in the 800-meter run event at the 2013 UIL Track &
  Field State Meet and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Rushing as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
