H.R. No. 2885

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Dr. Sheila Amin Gutierrez de Pineres, a professor at The University of Texas at Dallas, was inducted into the inaugural class of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers on April 23, 2013; and

WHEREAS, An initiative of The University of Texas System, the Academy of Distinguished Teachers was created to recognize outstanding educators from the nine UT institutions and work to improve teaching system-wide; members of this prestigious group will strive to foster innovation in UT classrooms and promote interdisciplinary perspectives on education; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Gutierrez de Pineres joined UT Dallas in 1996 and has taught economics, focusing on courses such as Latin American development, international trade, and social entrepreneurship; in 2010, she was appointed to serve as the dean of undergraduate education, holding the Mary McDermott Cook Distinguished Chair for Undergraduate Education and Research; and

WHEREAS, Through her dedication to her students and notable talent as an educator, Dr. Sheila Gutierrez de Pineres has enriched the lives of countless Texans, and it is most fitting to recognize her for her achievements; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Sheila Amin Gutierrez de Pineres on her induction into the UT System Academy of Distinguished Teachers and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Gutierrez de Pineres as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
