R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Beloved Quitman resident Sam White received the 2013
  Humanitarian Award from the Quitman Pilot Club for his many good
  works and deeds; and
         WHEREAS, Pilot International is a volunteer service
  organization composed of business and professional leaders who seek
  to give back to others and make the world a better place; Mr. White
  is a fitting recipient of the Quitman club's award, as he has
  generously shared his time and talents with his fellow citizens for
  nearly half a century; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. White first started making stew for Quitman
  events and gatherings around 1965, and he continues to do so today,
  donating countless hours not just to preparing his famous stew but
  also to cooking chili, barbecue, hot dogs, and hamburgers for
  various local celebrations, as well as for churches, schools, civic
  clubs, and fire departments; and
         WHEREAS, Born in the Cana community outside of Quitman in
  1928, Samuel Alvin White was the youngest child and only son of
  Oscar and Buena White; he has lived in Wood County his whole life,
  with the exception of the time he spent serving in the U.S. military
  during the Korean War; he worked for Farmland Industries until
  retiring and keeps busy today gardening, fishing, and watching
  Westerns when he is not making chow for his friends and neighbors; a
  man of faith, he belongs to Myrtle Springs Baptist Church; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. White shared 55 years of marriage with Jo
  Blalock White, who passed away in 2010, and he is the proud father
  of two children, Shannon and Sheree; over the years, his family has
  also grown to include four grandsons, Michael, Shawn, Brian, and
  Cody, as well as four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Brooke, Katelyn,
  and Lainey; in 2011, at the age of 82, he took a cross-country train
  trip with his grandson, Cody, to Alaska, where they embarked on a
  cruise; afterwards, they hopped a bus and took the long way home;
  and
         WHEREAS, Quitman is indeed fortunate to have kind, dedicated
  residents such as Sam White, whose efforts have long brightened the
  lives of everyone who is privileged to know him; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Sam White on his receipt of the
  2013 Quitman Pilot Club Humanitarian Award and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. White as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
